How the Swiyu E-ID app works

Image
The federal government’s wallet app is called Swiyu – it’s where your E-ID will be stored. In this article, I’ll go into exactly how the E-ID and app work as well as any downsides.   On 28 September 2025, the Swiss people accepted the Federal Act on the Federal Act on Electronic Identification Services (e-ID Act) . A few weeks ago, the federal government promoted its associated wallet app Swiyu to the next phase, namely a so-called public beta. If you’d like, you can download the app for Android and iOS and try it out for yourself. Mind you, it’s just a dry run, you can’t actually use it like a real ID yet. This will only kick in starting autumn 2026 at the earliest, assuming the referendum passes. What does Swiyu mean? Swiyu is the wallet app itself. In other words, the digital home in which you store your E-ID if you want one. The somewhat strange name is a combination of Switzerland and you. It’s meant to give off a «From Switzerland, for Swiss people» vibe. What happens ...

The Best Security Key for Multi-Factor Authentication

Image
Losing control of an online account to a digital intruder is a nightmare scenario. Multi-factor authentication (or MFA) is the best way to safeguard an account, because once MFA is enabled, an attacker won’t be able to access it—even if they have your username and password. A physical security key is the most secure MFA option, since it’s a dedicated authentication device and resistant to phishing. The Yubico Security Key C NFC is the best choice: It’s affordable and will work with just about every site that supports security keys. If you’re already familiar with security keys and need or want more-advanced features, the Yubico YubiKey 5C NFC is a pricier but worthwhile choice. Everything we recommend The Yubico Security Key C NFC is a well-made key that’s compatible with nearly all sites and services that support security keys. Its USB-C connector and NFC support work with most modern desktops, laptops, and mobile devices, so you can log in securely anywhere. Combined with Yubic...

GPMI to replace HDMI in China

Image
From this year, TVs with GPMI instead of HDMI connections will be sold in China. The new standard can transmit up to 192 gigabits per second and up to 480 watts. It also helps to save licence costs. The HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. in California should not be happy about this: a new transmission standard and new cables and connections are just around the corner. It will offer more data throughput and power from this year. It will also ensure that fewer licence costs for the "High Definition Multimedia Interface" (HDMI) will flow from China to the USA. This is because GPMI licences will be free of charge for Chinese companies. The new "General Purpose Media Interface" (GPMI) display and power delivery standard has been developed since 2019 by the Shenzhen 8K UHD Video Industry Cooperation Alliance (SUCA), which consists of over 50 Chinese companies, and has now been finalised. Well-known companies in the industry such as Hisilicon, TCL, Hisense, Huawei and Te...
