Canada to ban China's Huawei and ZTE from its 5G networks

Canada says it will ban two of China's biggest telecoms equipment makers from working on its 5G phone networks. The restrictions against Huawei and ZTE were announced by the country's industry minister on Thursday. Francois-Philippe Champagne says the move will improve Canada's mobile internet services and "protect the safety and security of Canadians". But Huawei Canada said it was "disappointed" by the decision, which it said was "political". "This is an unfortunate political decision that has nothing to do with cyber security or any of the technologies in question," a statement said. Several nations - including the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand - have already put restrictions on the firms. The four countries, along with Canada, make up an intelligence-sharing arrangement named " Five Eyes ". It evolved during the Cold War as a mechanism for monitoring the Soviet Union and sharing classified information. Canada'...

Rollout of 5G service delayed near key US airports over fears of flight disruptions

The chief executives of 10 passenger and cargo airlines warned the 5G service could cause "chaos" on US flights and "potentially strand tens of thousands of Americans overseas". The rollout of a new 5G service has been delayed near key US airports after the nation's largest airlines said it would interfere with aircraft technology and cause massive flight disruptions. AT&T and Verizon, the companies set to roll out the new C-Band 5G service on Wednesday, have made the decision after the Biden administration urged them to reach an agreement with airlines worried about the impact on flights. US Airlines want the new 5G service, scheduled to come into effect on Wednesday, to be banned within two miles of airport runways. AT&T and Verizon have agreed to delay turning on some wireless towers near key airports but have not said how long for. Dubai's Emirates airline and Japan's All Nippon Airways suspended some flights to the US on Tuesday due to unce...

If you don't know before, data speeds for 5G are supposed to be approximately 100 times faster than that of 4G LTE. In February, Verizon partnered with Samsung on a 5G trial. And now that it has published its 5G specs, we could see the other major U.S. carriers looking forward to catch up with Verizon. Having learned from the experience of building its 4G LTE pipeline, here is what Adam Koeppe, Verizon's vice president of network technology planning said - "The completion of the 5G radio specification is a key milestone toward the development of a com...
