Apple just completely redesigned iCloud.com, and it looks a lot better

Image
Apple launched a totally new iCloud.com design The iCloud.com site is useful if you want to quickly access some of the apps or services that are otherwise on your Mac, iPhone or iPad, particularly if you’re on a computer you don’t own or are using a PC. When you’re on iCloud.com, you’ll now see widgets with a tile for different apps such as Photos, iCloud Drive, Notes and Reminders. It replaces the old, stale-looking iCloud homepage where there were just icons for those apps. So, for example, now you can see recent photos you snapped, the latest emails in your Mail inbox, the latest files you’ve opened in Drive and new Notes you’ve written. You can also customize the homepage however you like, placing certain items, such as your email or photo gallery, in specific places. There’s a plus sign on the top upper right side of the screen that you can tap to create a new email, note, calendar event and reminder. Or you can tap it to create a new Pages, Numbers or Keynote document. There’s

Synology DiskStation DS920+ Review

Image
Towards the end of 2020, Synology added the DiskStation DS920+ to their lineup of NAS devices. The DS920+ leans to the smaller size of a NAS and offers a robust solution to streamline data and productivity within the environment that it is placed in. The DS920+ offers four bays, while also featuring two built-in M.2 slots allowing the device to take advantage of the Synology SSD Cache functionality. As we have stated in other NAS reviews, with what happened in 2020, along with more people working from home, there was a need for mass amounts of data that people needed to access or even save too. Since cloud service can only bring people so far before having to pay monthly or get in the hassle of using another service, NAS became a viable option when it came to storing and accessing data. This Synology DiskStation proves to be a very good option when it comes to a consumer-grade NAS. With four drive bays, supporting up to 100TB (9 total 3.5″ bays with expansion unit) for maximum single

Apple TV 4K updated with A15 Bionic and Ethernet

Image
Apple has launched an updated version of the Apple TV 4K media player. The new model features a faster processor, improved HDR support, and better connectivity. The new Apple TV 4K features the A15 Bionic SoC. Apple does not mention the core counts or clock speeds, which makes it difficult to ascertain if it is identical to the one on the iPhone 14 models or a cut down version. The company claims it has 50% faster CPU and 30% faster GPU performance compared to the A12 Bionic on the previous generation model. The new model adds support for the HDR10+ standard alongside the existing Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG formats. While HDR10+ is mostly similar to Dolby Vision in spec, it is vastly less popular, with the only major service offering HDR10+ content being Amazon Prime Video. It's possible, however, that Apple plans to start offering its own library of content in HDR10+ alongside other formats. This may be due to the fact that several TV manufacturers, most notably Samsung, do not

Zuckerberg really wants iPhone users to shift to WhatsApp

Image
A campaign from Meta-owned WhatsApp says iMessage is less secure, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg pushing incorrect claims about the Apple messaging service. An advertisement displayed above Penn Station is making the rounds with heads of Meta and WhatsApp pushing the message. It suggests that WhatsApp is a more secure and private alternative to iMessage. The advertisement shows text bubbles models after Apple's Messages app, one in green and one in blue. A third bubble shows "private bubble" suggesting that WhatsApp is a truly private platform. Mark Zuckerberg posted an image of this advertisement on his Instagram with text calling WhatsApp "a far more private and secure" platform. Cross-platform encrypted messaging with Android and disappearing chats are the reasonings behind his claim. The post also calls out Apple's iCloud backups containing iMessage encryption keys. However, it incorrectly suggests that iPhone users do not have an option for end-to-end encry

OCEANIC+ Turns Apple Watch Ultra into dive-computer

Image
Basic display on the Apple Watch Ultra with Oceanic+ app The Apple Watch Ultra, which goes on sale on 23 September, can be used as a dive-computer at depths down to 40m with the addition of a new version of the Oceanic+ app already used with iPhones. The £849 Ultra is certified to WR100 (waterproof to 5 bar), twice the resistance of the Apple Watch Series 8, to allow it to be used with air or nitrox at normal recreational scuba depths. It is also certified to EN13319, the international standard for depth gauges and other dive accessories.  The watch has its own basic built-in Depth app, which shows current time, depth and maximum depth while under water (to a maximum 40m), but Apple has also linked up with Huish Outdoors, which owns the Oceanic brand, to turn the Apple Watch Ultra into what they both describe as a “capable dive-computer”. Safety stop guidance The Oceanic+ app is based on a Bühlmann decompression algorithm. The watch’s new Action button can be programmed to launch it

Threema Messenger Review

Image
Today we're going to look at Threema, a secure, anonymous messaging app from Switzerland. While Threema has never achieved the notoriety of apps like Signal or Telegram, that doesn't mean that it's not worth your attention. In this Threema review we'll show you everything this secure messaging app has to offer. Threema basics Threema is easy to use and has the full range of features you would expect from a secure messenger app. It offers text and voice messages, voice and video calls, groups and distribution lists, and the ability to share files, media, and locations. Everything is end-to-end encrypted, including the items you share. Threema also lets you conduct polls, have private chats that are protected by a PIN or fingerprint, verify contacts to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks, and quote text messages. Because you don't need to enter your phone number or email address when creating a Threema account, you can use the service completely anonymously. This is a
