This study looks at daily time management and contingency planning for employee engagement. There are 3 steps for effective time management: plan your day, consider potential interruptions and then align it with your time management or contingent plan. Time management is no longer just about boosting productivity, but about making people happier in the workplace. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to improve your time management skills, then Wharton management professor Michael Parke can help. He’s the co-author of a study that looks at two specific types of daily planning for employees. It turns out there’s no perfect solution — the best type depends on your work environment and the kind of day that you’re having. Parke spoke to Knowledge@Wharton about the study, which is titled “When Daily Planning Improves Employee Performance: The Importance of Planning Type, Engagement, and Interruptions.” Knowledge@Wharton : Let’s jump right in and talk about these two types of planning. Paris court reiterates order requesting details from Twitter Six organizations that sued Twitter say they’ve had no details Twitter Inc. still hasn’t properly explained what resources it’s put in place in France to combat the spread of hate speech on its platform despite two consecutive court orders to do so, according to anti-racism and anti-homophobia organizations. The Paris court of appeals on Thursday confirmed a prior ruling that had required Twitter provide the associations with information on the number of people working on treating reports from French users, where those staff were located, their nationality and languages they spoke as well as data on the amount of offensive tweets removed following reports. While the initial July ruling gave Twitter two months to communicate the details, the platform still hasn’t fully complied, according to Stéphane Lilti, a lawyer for the Union of French Jewish Students. He says the data would be used to initiate damages proceedings. Social

Rollout of 5G service delayed near key US airports over fears of flight disruptions

Image
The chief executives of 10 passenger and cargo airlines warned the 5G service could cause "chaos" on US flights and "potentially strand tens of thousands of Americans overseas". The rollout of a new 5G service has been delayed near key US airports after the nation's largest airlines said it would interfere with aircraft technology and cause massive flight disruptions. AT&T and Verizon, the companies set to roll out the new C-Band 5G service on Wednesday, have made the decision after the Biden administration urged them to reach an agreement with airlines worried about the impact on flights. US Airlines want the new 5G service, scheduled to come into effect on Wednesday, to be banned within two miles of airport runways. AT&T and Verizon have agreed to delay turning on some wireless towers near key airports but have not said how long for. Dubai's Emirates airline and Japan's All Nippon Airways suspended some flights to the US on Tuesday due to unce

New Mac Pro in Q4 2022 expected to cap off Apple Silicon transition

Image
Apple will reportedly complete its transition to Apple Silicon by the fourth quarter of 2022 with the release of a new Mac Pro. In a tweet on Monday, leaker DylanDKT said that the Apple Silicon transition will officially end when Apple releases a Mac Pro equipped with an upgraded Apple Silicon chip. The new M-series chip won't be an extension of the "M2," the leaker added. Instead, it'll be an update on the M1 that brings more cores than the M1 Max. DylanDKT said in a subsequent tweet that there could also be one additional configuration of a larger iMac with a higher-end chip. The leaker's rumor echoes a report from August 2021 indicating that Apple would hit its two-year transition timeline with the release of an updated Mac Pro. Apple kicked off its Apple Silicon transition in November 2020. The company first updated models like the Mac mini, MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro before moving onto the 24-inch iMac and 2021 MacBook Pro models. Back in May 2021

Electric car sales pass ‘tipping point’ in Switzerland

Image
The number of new electric cars sold in Switzerland continues to accelerate – even faster than predicted, according to the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) car association. Sales of alternative fuel vehicles [all electric, plug-in hybrids, other hybrid models and gas-powered vehicles] climbed steeply last year to account for almost half of all new cars sold in Switzerland. 2021 ended particularly strongly. For the September to November period, fully electric vehicles accounted for 18.3% of new registrations and plug-in vehicles (electric and plug-in hybrids) hit a record 28%, Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) reported. The TCS described the 18.3% threshold as a milestone. Electric vehicles had clearly gone beyond a “tipping point” and moved into the mainstream, it said. “Given the ongoing technological advancements, increased social acceptance and the ever-increasing choice of electric vehicle models, the development of electromobility is progressing faster than expected. $20 Billion In 2022: Google Pays Apple For Not Launching Its Own Search Engine?

Image
Have you ever wondered why the world’s most valuable company never made any serious attempt to capture a sizeable share of the search engine market, especially in an era when a number of daily search queries are peaking to record high? Yes, we are talking about Apple and its mysterious strategy for not tapping the search engine market currently dominated by Google. If there is any truth in the lawsuit filed recently, it explains how Apple has hands in gloves with Google! Apple has a deal with Google that says it will not develop its own web search engine for as long as Google continues to pay top dollars to keep it as the default search engine within Safari, a new class action claims. Earlier in the week, the lawsuit was filed against Apple, Google, and their respective CEOs in the California court. The lawsuit asserts that the two companies are bound by an agreement to not compete regarding the online search business which is in a direct violation of US antitrust law. In particular, t

Novak Djokovic Has Been Banned From Australia For Three Years

Image
Novak Djokovic is officially out of Australia after he boarded a late night flight from Sydney to Dubai yesterday (January 16). The world number one male tennis star received news on Sunday that he was being deported from Australia once and for all. Immigration Minister Alex Hawke cited 'health' and 'good order' under section 133C (3) of the Migration Act as grounds for booting the Serbian out of the country. He said Djokovic's presence in Australia could stoke anti-vaccination sentiments in Australia and re-cancelled his visa on Friday (January 14) afternoon. On late Sunday afternoon, the Federal Court of Australia unanimously agreed to uphold that decision, which sealed Novak's fate. While Djokovic will no doubt be devastated to miss this year's Australian Open, where he was hoping to clinch a 10th title, the ramifications of his deportation order could see him sit on the sidelines for a while. Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews told Sky News Australia:

Here's all the latest reaction to the decision from Djokovic himself and the Australian government, to other tennis players and the Australian public. Djokovic 'extremely disappointed' and 'uncomfortable' Djokovic released a short statement after the court announced its decision. "I would like to make a brief statement to address the outcomes of today’s Court hearing. "I will now be taking some time to rest and to recuperate, before making any further comments beyond this. "I am extremely disappointed with the Court ruling to dismiss my application for judicial review of the Minister’s decision to cancel my visa, which means
